Herbs Market circa 1945

This is an actual photo of Herb's Market in 1945.   If you visit the store today,  you'll see the original meatbox door which is behind George Sears in this photo. You'll also see the original tin walls, ceiling and wooden floors.
The store was known then as Sears Market until Harold Herbert (affectionately known as Herb) purchased the store in 1963 and so Herb's Market was established.
Herb expanded the store in 1974 into the size it is today.  For 38 years Herb and his wife Chrissy served the Montauk community and transformed the store into a very succesful business.
In 2001 Herb sold his business to two of his employees, Lucille Lenahan and Gillian Mooney, local Montaukers, who together have more than twenty years experience in the deli business.
Herb's continues to be a Montauk tradition with a loyal following among locals and tourists.
If you're lucky, you might spot Herb himself checking in on the old place!
